My sister, Edy was always a student who studied almost, endlessly throughout her early life. Whether there was a social affair or a friend’s get together, no matter the event, Edy would never even consider being distracted from her goal of becoming a professional musician/singer. In order to achieve those goals, she worked hard every single day. In my view, her daily focus was simply amazing.
She loved both animals and children. And, in her earliest days, I thought that her future life’s work would concentrate on either of these paths. (I ended up being “half-right”!
Her love of music lead her to becoming a professional vocalist and musician. As far as her work, Edy got herself gigs, playing coffee houses and local clubs.
At an early age, Edy learned how to play guitar and then she taught herself how to play the accordion (by ear!). I have never even heard of anyone self- teaching the accordion, without taking any lessons.
She went through High School as a honor roll student in her four straight years. She graduated in 1965(?) and then went on to attend Montclair State College in Montclair, New Jersey, graduating from there, as summa cum laude (tops in her graduating class).
Finally, her choice in life became “CHILDREN”. As I said, this was my half-right prediction.
She is now a loving, spirited, Music Therapist helping her patients, autistic children, to communicate with the world and their grateful parents are Edy’s clients.
Edy, as millions of doctors and teachers today, are presently working out of their homes via the internet teaching students of all ages who are in their respective homes, learning. In her case, she works OUT of her Flanders, New Jersey home.
The parents of these children are amazed that the results Edy’s music becomes a magical key to the communication between these special children and their loving parents.
There is no doubt that a true “miracle worker” is my sister Edy Toussaint, for sure!
